ERROL BROWN
Home
Errol Brown is a veteran engineer and producer, best known for his work recording, engineering and mixing the sounds of Bob Marley. Brown specializes in the recording of live instruments and the engineering of concert shows. His love for working with live instruments allows him to capture the full life and feeling of music; a skill that is rare in today’s world of rigid digital drum machines. These skills are complemented well by Brown’s expertise in the latest digital recording and mixing technology, such as Protools. Brown is also known to have one of the best musical “ears” in the business and is an expert working with frequency and tone. These abilities give any concert or track engineered by Brown a superior, well-balanced sound.

The nephew of the late Duke Reid, the pioneer of Treasure Isle Recording Studio, Brown was trained as a youth at Treasure Isle by Byron Smith and Duke Reid himself. He began his formal career in 1979 as an assistant engineer beneath Alex Sadkin on Bob Marley’s album Survival. Brown continued working with Marley, fulfilling the duties of lead engineer for the 1980 album Uprising and the 1983 release Confrontation. Brown is also known for his recent work as an assistant engineer on Lauryn Hill’s Grammy Award Winning album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Brown has recorded and engineered international artists such as Gilberto Gil and the Puerto Rican reggae group Cultura Profetica. Outside the studio, Brown has toured internationally as a sound engineer with Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Shaggy, Rita Marley and Lauryn Hill. His talents for engineering live shows won Brown an Emmy Award for the broadly televised One Love – The Bob Marley All-Star Tribute Concert in 1999.
