Rolando “Phanso” Wilson and Dwight “Duke” Dawes made their foray into music as member of the famed Gumption Band where they played the drums and the keyboard respectively. Gumption is among the most famous backup bands in Jamaica and has been awarded the Best Backing Band by the Jamaica Federation of Musicians from
Phanso and Duke have authored several unique “riddims” including “roots rock,” which combines the older, more traditional conscious reggae with modern lyrics (i.e. Nelly Furtado, “Turn off the Light” remix) and a remake of Desmond Dedders Israelites Rhythm (featured in music by Bushman, Tony Rebel, Lenn Hammond, Brah Yhan, Queen Ifrika and Ras Myrhdak). Phanso and Duke are best known for their unique mixing of Roots Rock, Dancehall and R&B.
