Lowell “Sly” Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, the dynamic duo of drum and bass, are Known as trendsetters in the Jamaican music industry. Since founding Taxi Productions
The two have displayed an unmatchable talent of creating music that appeals to the masses while simultaneously taking chances at molding popular appetite with new and creative rhythms. As a result, the duo is responsible for the production behind ground- breaking songs such as the 80’s dub classic “On the Meter Taxi”, Sugar Minott’s “Urban Hustling” and Chaka Demus and Plier’s international hit “Murder She Wrote.” The Taxi team has also worked with international artists No Doubt, Grace Jones, Gwen Guthrie, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan and Cyndi Lauper.
The two musicians met in the mid seventies while Dunbar was revolutionalizing reggae drumming for Channel One Studios and Shakespeare was laying down what would become timeless bassline rifts for artists such as the Aggrovators and Bob Marley. The two later formed a rhythmic drum and bass partnership and provided backing for artists such as the Revolutionaries and Peter Tosh before becoming founding members of the group Black Uhuru.
