STEELY & CLEVIE
Home
Noted as the pioneers of dancehall, but certainly not limited to this genre, Steely & Clevie have worked together for 30 years with domestic and international artists of many styles with great success. Steely was the original keyboard player with the Roots Radix Band which backed Gregory Isaacs, Bunny Wailer and other artists on tour and also played on a number of hit recordings for various producers in the 70s. Clevie started his music career as a member of the noted Browne musical family, beginning as lead singer of the Browne Bunch’s first single “We’ve Got A Good Thing Going”. Was inspired by the perfectionism of his then producer Geoffrey Chung (leading producer of his era) to specialize in the business and production of music, which led to his becoming one of Jamaica’s leading producers.
During the 80’s when dancehall was established, Steely & Clevie produced or performed on up to 75% of the songs on the top 100 charts on all local stations in Jamaica. Steely & Clevie latest reggae production effort with Sean Paul is riding high on the international charts. They offer production, remixing, composition and musical services and own and work from their own production facility, Studio 2000 at 16A Worthington Terrace, New Kingston, which was twice voted Studio of the Year. Clevie is currently Chairman of the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica (RIAJam).
